Every year small business SEO is becoming more and more difficult – but it still needs to be done. Most people still click on the Organic search engine results rather than paid Ads.
SEO in 2019 is different, so let us look at what works and what doesn’t. Before we get started – How many of you guys running a business outside of web design are SEO experts? You might be an expert plumber or hairdresser, but SEO is a VERY specialised skill set. And it is constantly changing.
The first tip I have for you is that adding regular new content can drive a ton of traffic – you really need a minimum of one post per week to your website, more is better. Google loves QUALITY content; content is king, but it needs to be unique and interesting to your readers. So, if you go out there and you just write tons of new posts because your competition ranks for these terms, it won’t necessarily work. Regurgitating the same information over and over again does not get results in 2019. What you do need to do is create brand-new unique content. You have to write about fresh stuff that people haven’t seen before. So, instead of focusing on writing every week, focus on writing new, unique and interesting content every week! People are looking for new information and they’re craving it now more than ever right now.
As well as adding NEW content, update your EXISTING content. Google soon gets tired of old-fashioned, outdated content. There’s content online on everything. Whatever you’re writing on, there are 50 other articles similar to that. If are you going to work smarter, write brand-new, fresh content or re-write existing content. But even with your new, fresh content, other people are going to copy you, so you need to update it. It doesn’t have to be monthly, but, at the least, once a year go into your best-performing articles and update them. It is also worth having a Copyscape account to catch people who are blatantly copying your content.
You need to take a wide approach, both online and offline – and you need to do that for a long period of time. I’m not talking a few months, I’m talking about a year or two – your brand will get bigger and bigger and you’ll find that it’s easier for to rank on Google. Anyone who tells you they can rank you in no time is, quite frankly, talking garbage. Just Google what Google itself says about claims to rank you quickly – it cannot be done. One good strategy is to use Adwords in the beginning and slowly transition to Organics results. Ring us on 0468 420 470 if you need help from a Gold Coast based Certified Adwords Specialist.
Another tip covers how to build link structures, but even that is getting harder than ever. Everyone’s hitting each other up these days for links. So instead of just going out there and trying to link to just anyone, go for high-quality links like Youtube, Facebook etc. Also, if someone links to three, four, five of your competitors but not you, you know that they are open to connecting with you if you make them an offer to swap links.
Another tip is to make sure that your website is Mobile Friendly. Google has a mobile-only search engines as well as one just for your desktop and laptop machines. Yes, people have 4G and 5G phones, but just because they have fast phones doesn’t mean they’re in an area with strong reception, so they may not be able to access your website fast. Use Google Page Speed to determine what you what you need to fix to load faster in Google’s eyes.
And of course, everyone should be on HTTPS by now; if you aren’t, switch to https, it’ll help massively, as well as having a firewall to protect you.
The final tip I have for you is to build your Brand. Google is looking for “Brand Signals” and if you are wondering how big your brand is, go to Google Trends and check your brand name versus your competitors. The reason Google rates Brands labels is that it builds trust. They know that if people are looking for your brand, they trust you, and you’re less likely to create garbage content or write content for the sake of content. If you want to build a label, you need to do it offline as well.

These are the two questions I get asked most when clients are looking to build a website.
What Kind of Website Do I Need? And What Do Websites Cost? This is a bit like asking What kind of Car do I need? And what do Cars cost? It varies, depending on your needs and the budget you have.
So let’s look at the different types of websites, along with an indication of cost.
WordPress Websites
The WordPress Websites we build range from ….. $395 (Simple Start-Up Website for a new business on a very tight budget) to ….. $495 to $695 (Website for an established business with a reasonable budget) to ….. Up to $995 (ECommerce Website selling hundreds of items)
We will go into more detail later.
HTML Websites
HTML Websites usually cost less ($195 to $395, depending on the complexity) but are far less flexible and difficult to work on yourself unless you know HTML.
“Websites To Go” Template Websites
Template Websites are usually cheaper ($95 to $195) because we start with a basic website template and customise it with your business details, contact details, images of your business etc. The other big advantage of Template Websites is that they can be ready in 2-3 days of you getting your info to us.
What One-Page “Websites to Go” Look Like
Guaranteed Page One Websites
These are provided via a Special Deal we can set up with you, using Google Adwords. Note that Google itself says NO-ONE can guarantee you a Google page one ranking from Organic Search Engine Rankings.
Website Budget
Your Website Budget is often the determining factor, especially for new, start-up businesses. We discuss what you need in a website, how much you have to spend on your website, and how we can get the most bang for your bucks.
Website Security
Website Security is important, and something we do first when designing your website. WordPress is the most secure provided you know what you are doing. WordPress has hundreds of Plugins designed to keep your website safe
Website Flexibility
Website Flexibility may or may not be important to you. If your website is hardly ever going to change, we may be able to get away with a cheaper HTML website – but see below re Website User Friendliness. If your website content will be changing frequently, we recommend a WordPress website.
Website User Friendliness
If Website User Friendliness is important to you – stay away from HTML! WordPress is very user-friendly and will usually be a team job between you and me. The more technical aspects I handle for you, but many changes you can make yourself. WordPress has several levels of “Users.” As an “Administrator”, I can look after Settings, Themes, Plugins, Security, WordPress Updates etc for you. As an “Editor” you can add new content to your website yourself (IF you wish to) – Certainly, if you know your way around MS Word a little training will help you save money by doing new content yourself.
Custom Website Look
A Custom Website look is very important to most people, and we recommend this. We have special software that allows us to create exactly what you want for your WordPress website. The Images below show some of the things you want to think about, or you can gather 2-3 website addresses of existing websites that you like the look of for us to look at.
Website Sliders or Videos?
All Websites come with EITHER Website Sliders or Videos. If you want both Sliders AND Videos this can be provided for an additional cost.
Website Backlinks
Website Backlinks are essential – we can provide some backlinks to all the different kinds of websites we create. We also show you the special backlinks you MUST have.

Top Small Business Website Design Tips for 2018
If you are a small business owner, it is paramount to have a well-designed website. With a well-designed site, you will attract more traffic and enjoy better rankings on major search results. It is the uniqueness of your site design that allows you to gain an edge over your competitors. This is why it is important to invest your resources in terms of time and money to ensure that you have a website design that stands out from the others. To assist you in this process, here are some Top Small Business Website Design Tips you should follow in 2018.
Ensure your website is easy to navigate
If your visitors find it hard to navigate through your website, they will simply go to your competitors’ sites. You have to make sure that your site design is friendly to all users. The best way to do this is to ensure that users do not waste time or have difficulties when looking for information they need. Your small business website should have a solid navigation that also assists the search engines to index your content and improve your visitors’ experience. You can make your site easy to navigate by linking back to the homepage from all pages, keeping vital information on top and improving your site footer.
Design For a Mobile-Friendly website
A large percentage of people are now using mobile devices to access the web. This means that if your website is not mobile friendly, it will not offer good value to visitors. You simply must have a mobile responsive website because it is through mobile devices that most traffic is expected to come in 2018. Make sure that your website is responsive to all mobile devices in order to take advantage of the high number of people using such devices.
Make your Home Page clutter free
It is important to note that visitors rarely read all the information on your website. They usually scan the pages, noting keywords and important sentences. With this in mind, it is necessary to have a web design that appeals to the emotion of your visitors instead of focusing on the word count. Your site home page should have less information for your visitors to read, remember or click. Only have information that your visitors can process and evaluate easily, understand what your site is all about, and what you expect them to do. This increases their chances of them taking the desired action. Use icons and images as another way of communicating your point to your target audience. One of our most important Top Small Business Website Design Tips is to design for your visitor’s convenience.
Application of colourful and strong fonts
The font used in a website determines its success to a significant extent. In 2018, it is advisable you use strong and colourful fonts. Such fonts give your site a strong visual emphasis that makes it not only attractive to visitors, but also makes them spend more time on it. This is more important owing to the fact that mobile devices have already taken control of the digital world. To enhance success, you need to have the key phrases and keywords emphasized using bright colours and bold fonts.
Integrate social interaction elements
Social networking sites have gained high-level popularity and it is expected that they will reach a new high in 2018. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that your website integrates social interaction elements. This will encourage social interactions on your website, leading to more business. You can do this by using social media buttons that encourage your visitors to share your content, like your page, or post comments. It is also possible to have social media apps that connect to your website to allow instant interaction and sharing.
Apply site animation
Animation can have a great impact on making your website interface and ideas easy to understand. This is necessary because most visitors are in a hurry, so your site should convey important information fast. Animation also helps to convey complex ideas in an engaging manner. You can use storytelling, appealing images and other forms of animations to make your site information more understandable and make it friendly to users.
Bottom line
The most important thing to make your small business website a success is having all elements that make it user-friendly. This is a great way to attract more traffic and high referral rates. We hope you have enjoyed these Top Small Business Website Design Tips!
